Passengers on the Sightseeing Bus

The passengers on the sightseeing bus are quite different. They are from various countries. Jacques is from France, but he can speak very good Chinese. Natasha is from Russia. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are American. They are from Los Angeles. George is from Athens. He is a Greek. Sally and Cathy, the twin girls, are Australian. They are from Sydney, a very beautiful city.

The passengers are different, but they all have a good time in China and they like China very much.

语法要点

I. There be 结构

1.“There be + 名词”结构引导表示“存在”或“位置”的句子。be 动词后的名词是真正的主语,there 不具有词义。be动词的单复数形式根据后面名词的单复数而变化。真正的主语为不可数名词或可数名词单数时,用there is。如:There is a passenger on the bus. (车上有一位乘客。) 如果主语为可数名词的复数形式,要用there are 的形式。如:There are 10 students in the room. (房间里有十个学生。)

2.There be 结构的肯定式、否定式、疑问式及简略答语。

No, there isn’t/ aren’t.

II. one 作为代词的用法

除了表示数量以外,one 还可以充当代词,代替上文提及的一个人或物,或指代前面提到的同类人或物中的某一个,从而避免重复;其前面可加this,that,the或形容词,起修饰或限制作用。one 的复数形式为ones。如:

Who is the one in her red shirt? (穿红衬衣的那位是谁?)

This book is a new one. (这本书是新的。)

I have three pens: a blue one and two red ones.(我有三支笔,一支蓝的,两支红的。)

This picture is small, but that one is big.(这幅画很小,但那幅画很大。)

代词 it 替代的是前面所谈的具体的东西。如:I like this book. It is interesting.(我喜欢这本书,它很有趣。)

III. 可数名词复数形式的构成
